Joint Meeting with Top Management Night

Alan Ryan
Alan Ryan has a background of thirty-two years in the cracker and cookie industry and many years in the not-for-profit world as a volunteer. Since 1983, he has devoted his time and energy to not-for-profits and learned much along the way. He wishes to share his thoughts on how he has found joy in retirement, or as he says—” At least so far!!”

He currently serves as Chair of the 35 Million-dollar Endowment Campaign of the Heart of West Michigan United Way. He and wife Margaret recently accepted Honorary Chair responsibilities for the Capital Campaign of the Michigan Trails Council of the Girl Scouts in Grand Rapids.

He hopes to share a little of his enthusiasm for the not-for-profit world and the special opportunity to bring strategic planning skills from the not-for-profit world into another business world that badly needs it!

Alan Ryan, recently retired, has a background with close to fifty years in the executive business community combining extensive executive manufacturing experience with a lifetime desire for philanthropic causes. He has served as Director Of Marketing Services for the Keebler Company which lead to 15 years within the Biscuit & Cracker Manufacturer's Association, eventually as President of the organization. He then worked with Quaker Oats eventually serving as Corporate Vice President. He moved into the banking industry where he was Chairmen of Long Range Planning for the United Jersey Bank, (Princeton). Alan has always been highly committed to community service organizations devoting many years assisting long range planning efforts for organizations such as academia, (Aquinas College), hospitals, (St. Marys Health Services, Tri Hospital, Alexian Brothers Hospital, Central Du Page Hospital), social services, (Catholic School Board, United Way, Planning Commissions, Grand Rapids Art Museum), and one of the Chairmans for Governor Kean's Management Improvement Task Force while residing in New Jersey. His personality is as engaging as his career accomplishments, making his visit to the Michiana Chapter meeting one centered around personal balance, career, and giving back to ones' community. He has a degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University and a graduate degree in the Advanced Management Program from Harvard University
